Requirements and Design/Evaluation Criteria

This competition is about developing prototype(s) for fixed urban seating units, that will meet requirements for rest, recreation, and socialization in the designated area. The seating unit should function well as a single and separate urban element, but also as a component forming larger sitting group configurations. To enrich the possibilities for combinations in larger groups, prototypes may also be proposed in variations (up to 3 different forms).

The main criteria for design are: Identity, variety in use, ergonomic appropriateness, material and structural efficiency, along with social and aesthetic value.

In relation to sustainability (economy, production and maintenance) wood, brick, concrete, stone, and metals are suggested as principal structural materials.
